It is already August!

I can’t believe August is already here. In a month the air will be getting cooler, the beaches will be scarce, bathing suits will be put away, and kids will be back to school.  Here are some Scituated ideas of how to spend the next 31 days in the town we all love.

31 things to do in Scituate during the summer

1.    First Friday. August 5th from 6pm-9pm.  Come down to Front Street and enjoy this event that takes place on the first Friday evening of each month.  Businesses put a creative spin on what they have to offer through live entertainment, appetizers to nibble on, and wine tastings to sip, while you browse the shops.  This is a wonderful way to start the weekend, mingle with the community, and see what the businesses on Front Street have to offer.
2.  Check out the Scituate Luminaria to kick off heritage day weekend.  The luminaria takes place Friday, August 5th at 8:30pm.  People bring plastic containers to the seawall, fill it with some sand, and place a lit candle inside.  The result:  The coast of Scituate all lit up.  This is a must see.

3. Heritage Days.   August 6th and 7th.  Come down to Scituate Harbor and enjoy this annual weekend event that consists of live entertainment, food, local vendors, historical events, and activities for kids.  Parking is a challenge so plan in advance.  I recommend riding your bike if you don’t live too far away.  Don’t forget your wallet.

4.  Scituate Library Book Sale.   August 20th and 21st.  Who needs a Kindle, Nook, or IPad for reading?   Support you local library and find some good books for yourself and family by attending this event.

5.  Go to a yard or an estate sale. One person’s junk is another person’s treasure.  See the local paper, signs, or craigslist for listings.
6.  Eat outside at TK O’Malley’s on a nice day.  The atmosphere and view of the harbor is perfect on a nice day.  Enjoy a cocktail and some pub food while you socialize with your friends on the outdoor deck.  Sit at a table, high top, or the bar.  Don’t forget your ID.

7.    Take the Greenbush commuter train into Boston if the commuter rail ever decides to run again on the weekends.  If not a weekday will suffice.
