This Friday was the start of our Scituate “Staycation”. In the past my husband and I would travel all the way to the Outer banks, NC for the week of July 4th. This year it was decided that we would stay in the comfort of our own home and enjoy everything our own hometown had to offer. So far I have enjoyed every second and have no regrets.
We kicked off our vacation after we both got out of work on Friday evening by going to the Dog Watch for drinks and appetizers. The Dogwatch is located inside the Inn at Scituate Harbor and provides a warm and inviting atmosphere. We sat on the patio where we enjoyed a beautiful view of Scituate Harbor while at the same time were able to feel as if we were in the private garden of a lush estate. Whoever was hired to do the landscape design of this place knew what they were doing. We ordered pizza, buffalo chicken spring rolls, mozzarella sticks and some drinks. The food was high quality bar food. What I really enjoy and appreciate about this establishment is that the atmosphere is spectacular in both winter and summer and it is pretty much the only place in town that has good beers on tap. If you like good beer you should check this place out. I would highly recommend the Allagash white which is brewed in Portland, Maine …….with a lemon of course.
From the DogWatch we walked Front Street and enjoyed the First Friday event. This is when all the shops are open later than usual on the first Friday of each month and some provide wine and cheese tastings and even live entertainment. If you have not yet checked it out I would highly recommend doing so. Especially in the summer. I was lucky enough to walk away from the Front Street Arts Gallery with a print of art I had been eyeing for months, some delicious BBQ sauce from the Front Street Gourmet, some Cisco beer from Harborside Liquors, and a nice buzz to start my vacation with. I had to keep it in check the last thing I needed was to drink too much wine and be doing the “Thriller Dance” down Front Street.
